Clinical features of visual aura symptoms
Michele Viana is a Consultant Neurologist and PhD. In 2010 he completed a clinical fellowship at the Headache Group, Department of Neurology, University of California – San Francisco, CA, USA (Head prof. Peter J Goadsby). He attained his residency in Neurology at the University of Eastern Piedmont (Novara, Italy) in 2011. Following his residency he has worked for 7 years as a clinical researcher at the Headache Science Center - National Neurological Institute “C. Mondino" Pavia, Italy (Head: Prof. Nappi/ Prof. Tassorelli). In 2017 he completed his PhD in Biomedical Sciences (Neurosciences curriculum) at the University of Pavia, Italy. Since September 2018 he is visiting researcher at Headache Group, Department of Basic and Clinical Neurosciences, King's College London, and since October 2018 he is researcher at Headache Center, Neurocenter of Southern Switzerland, Regional Hospital Lugano, Switzerland.
Dr. Viana has published several studies on headache, with a particular focus on the clinical characteristics of migraine with aura and without aura, pharmacogenetics aspects of migraine and MOH, women's issues in migraine, misdiagnosis/underdiagnosis of migraine and TACs and the clinical, psychological and genetic factors involved in migraine chronification/MOH. He is a member of the Educational committee of IHS as well as the Italian Language committee of the IHS.
