40 years since the introduction of the trigeminovascular system and its peptides in migraine pathogenesis
Professor MD at dept Medicine, Lund University, Sweden, and professor MD at Copenhagen University, Denmark.
My research since 4 decades has centered around cerebral circulation and headaches. My pioneering work is on finding and demonstrating neuropeptide Messenger molecules involved in regulation by autonomic nerves and in sensory cranial pain syndromes. I was the first to show CGRP in the trigeminal ganglion and its association with primary headache discorders. This part of my work is reviewed in Nat Rev Neurology 2018 and in Headache 2018.
